Earlier this year two giants put aside their differences and agreed to walk together for the good of their nation. After a heated political season and a series of disputed elections, Kenya was on the brink of disaster. Opposition leaders refused to accept flawed presidential elections and launched a nationwide boycott, forming a parallel government.
The unexpected handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga on March 9th was a watershed event. It brought an end to the acrimony between leading political parties and tribes and promised to usher in a new era of peace. The two leaders pledged to work together to address ethnic division, corruption, and historical injustice.
The surprise reconciliation and historic “Peace Accord” was cemented during the 2018 Kenya National Prayer Breakfast. During this gathering of political, business, and religious leaders from across the nation, President Kenyatta and Hon. Raila Odinga Kenya Connection publicly apologized and sought forgiveness from one another, reiterating their pledge to work together to heal a divided Kenya.
