Jacinta (Chichy) Amina was a gifted student and scholar who rose from a humble background to become the first in her family to graduate from university. After completing high school at St. Francis Girls School in Rang’ala, Chichy obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Statistics and Physics from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
Often praised by teachers and classmates for her discipline and strong study habits, Chichy excelled in academics.
The Chichy Amina Memorial Scholarship was established in her honor to support needy students, and particularly orphaned and vulnerable children and youth, to pursue their educational dreams.
Inspiration
Shortly after she finished high school, Chichy wrote:
“I have sensed the Lord telling me that I should do something which will make a difference in someone’s life, not necessarily someone I know but someone who is in need of that change. My future plan is to get a good job and do something for the disadvantaged in the society. You can help me get there by praying for me to work hard at school and focus on what will help me, not what will destroy me. I promise that when I get there I will do what God is calling me to do, so help me God.”
Chichy’s life was tragically cut short at the age of 29, but her dream and calling continue. To date, over 650,000 KES has been raised to support education through the Chichy Amina Scholarship Program.
